Trail Experience

The River Loop offers a peaceful journey along the banks of the mighty Murray River, where towering gum trees provide shade and sanctuary for local wildlife.

Notable Attractions

·       The Mass Tree: A historic river red gum at the bottom of Short Street, marked by a commemorative plaque from the Catholic Women's Guild. This significant tree marks the site of Dean Tierney of Beechworth's first mass, held in Mrs. M.M. Burrowes' tent

·       The Willows Reserve: Features a charming sandy beach perfect for dipping your toes in the Murray River

  • Toilet with access features available at beginning of trail
  • Wide, mostly sealed pavement throughout duration of trail
  • Mostly flat trail with short, gradual inclines/ declines
  • Step-free all the way along the path
  • 3 road crossings – each with reflectors
  • High amount of shade
  • Bench seats available along the trail
  • Wayfinding signage with QR codes
  • Public BBQ with shelter, bench seats and table available at the Willows Reserve
  • Easily turn around at any point to return to the starting point
