A visit to the River Loop trail

1. Starting my adventure

Today, I am going on the River Loop Trail.
I might walk, ride my bike, push a pram, use a scooter, or use my wheelchair.

2. Where I begin

I will start at The Willows Reserve in Wahgunyah, near Drummond & Main Streets.
There is ample parking and a smooth path onto the trail, near the carpark entry.
There are toilets available at the reserve before I begin.

3. About the trail

The trail is a loop - I will end up back where I start.
It is about 4 kilometres long.
This trail is easy, flat, with only about 27 metres of elevation.
I can go as fast or slow as I like.

4. What I might see

While I'm on the trail, I might see:

  • The Murray River flowing beside me
  • Tall river red gums providing shade
  • The Mass Tree, an old red gum with a plaque marking a historic mass site
  • A sandy beach area at The Willows Reserve where I can dip my toes
  • Birds, insects, or other wildlife

It's okay if I don't want to stop. It's okay if I do!

5. The path and surface

The trail is flat, mostly sealed riverside paths.
It might feel a little bumpy in places, but that’s okay.
If I need help, I can go slow or ask someone I trust.

6. Toilets and water

There are toilets and water taps at the trailhead in Wahgunyah.
I can fill my water bottle before I start.

7. Shade and rest stops

There are towering red gums that give shade.
I can sit under trees or stop in sandy spots for a break.

8. If it gets busy or noisy

I might see families, bikers, or walkers. If I feel worried, I can:

  • Take deep breaths
  • Put on my headphones
  • Find a quiet, shady place to sit
  • Ask someone I trust for help

9. Finishing the trail

When I finish the trail, I might feel:

  • Calm and relaxed
  • Proud of myself
  • Happy to be in nature - I did something new and enjoyed it!

10. More information

If I want to plan ahead, I (or someone helping me) can visit:
