Rutherglen Gold Battery Walk
57 Main Street Rutherglen 3685
Discover some of Rutherglen’s most iconic landmarks on the Rutherglen Gold Battery Walk. This self-guided walk covers approximately four kilometres and takes around one hour to complete.
The walk begins at the Rutherglen Wine Experience and Visitor Information Centre. Cross the Murray Valley Highway and join the rail trail, where you can admire the impressive Rutherglen Silo Art. Just beyond the silos, follow the path leading to Lord Street. Continue along Lord Street until you reach Hopetoun Road.
Head up Hopetoun Road to the town’s iconic Wine Bottle. Be sure to turn around and take in the stunning views of the surrounding vineyards and mountain ranges.
At the roundabout, take the third exit onto Carlyle Road and continue for approximately one kilometre to Battery Road. A short walk from here will bring you to the Rutherglen Gold Battery. To access the audio-visual experience inside the Gold Battery, collect the door code from the friendly staff at the Rutherglen Visitor Information Centre before you begin your walk.
Return to High Street via the roundabout, where your next stop, the Rutherglen Convent and Brewery, will be on your left.
Continue past St Mary’s Primary School and the historic Ready Water Fountain, then turn left into Douglas Street. Walk past the Wallace Cairn before returning to the Rutherglen Wine Experience and Visitor Information Centre, where your journey concludes.
