Rutherglen, Mountain Biking & Off Road Cycling

Granthams Bend Trail

Granthams Bend provides numerous tracks meandering through the River Red Gum forest, some very well formed and some a little more rugged for the true off roaders. Great picnic and swimming spots abound.

From Granthams Bend one can easily access nearby cellar doors (including St Leonards, All Saints and Valhalla), or return to Wahgunyah via the Bridge to Bridge Trail.

Wahgunyah St Leonards - Grantham's Walk - 3

The Willows Reserve

The Willows Trail follows the river bank from the town of Wahgunyah. An easy ride on relatively well formed trails, with some sandy river flat country. Great native flora and fauna, and returning via the Wahgunyah Recreation Reserve there is a great opportunity for the kids to stop and have a kick of the footy.

Wahgunyah River Trail

Wahgunyah River Track takes in the Mighty Murray River and passes by farming properties. A plaque commemorates the centenary year of the burial of John Foord II (1819 - 1883). He was the pioneer of the Wahgunyah Run and the township developed on his property. Foord named his 30,000 acre property Wahgunyah which was said to be a Whroo, the local Indigenous people’s name for ‘big camp’.

Lake Moodemere Trail

A long picturesque trail that takes in both the river and Lake Moodemere. Ride around the quiet 'back end' of Lake Moodemere, past vineyards, through impressive stands of forest and along the shores of the lake itself. Return via a little known but pretty track that follows the Sunday Creek and delivers you directly to the Pfeiffer Cellar Door. Cofield Wines and Lake Moodmere Vineyard are also easily accessed along the route.

Chiltern Mount Pilot National Park

The fringes of the Chiltern Mount Pilot National Park (Box Ironbark forest) are less than a 10 minute drive from the heart of Rutherglen and offer endless bush biking trails. Don't forget to pack the binoculars as more than 200 species of birds have been recorded within the forest.

For those who are very serious about their mountain biking there is a custom-designed mountain bike park just a half-hour drive from Rutherglen in Beechworth. Please see here for full detail.
