For the Family
There is so much on offer for families in Rutherglen, Wahgunyah and surrounds.
A place to play: Apex Park in Rutherglen has a well equipped playground and skate park with a small bike circuit for the 'little ones' and adjacent BBQ facilities.
Fancy a swim? Cool off in the local Rutherglen swimming pool, enjoy a picnic on the shady lawns and brave the diving board! Lake Moodemere, Stantons Bend and the lagoon at Corowa are also popular spots for families with young children.
Gone fishing! Cast your line for the elusive Murray Cod in the Murray River or Lake Moodemere!
Try your hand at golf at the Rutherglen Golf Club or maybe have a hit of Tennis at the Rutherglen Tennis Courts - hire available from the Rutherglen Caravan Park.
Step back in time with a visit to the Rutherglen Gold Battery, children can listen to the audio visual display of the machinery that was used back in the gold rush era, let their imaginations go wild at what it would have been like to work in the mines.
Visit the historic port of Wahgunyah - see the collection of historic photographs and walk down to the Mass Tree.
Get back to nature: explore local wetlands located at Lake Moodemere and in Corowa at Bridge Rd, on the walking/bike track on Federation Avenue, and in Nixon St. Lake King is home to a variety of native birds and animals, as well as many long-necked tortoises and ducks. They can be enticed quite close to the edge where they can be easily seen. Also walk around and spot all the different sculptures which are nestled amongst the trees. Lake Moodemere is a natural lake formed by a Murray River billabong. A native bird & wildlife sanctuary, there is also an Aboriginal site which contains some magnificent examples of River Red Gum (some up to 4 meters in diameter), and Aboriginal canoe trees.
Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park is only 20 minutes from Rutherglen and includes the Yeddonba Aboriginal Heritage site which has rock art of a snake, goanna and Tasmanian tiger. There is also the Woolshed Falls, spring wildflower display and a variety of native birds and animals.
Have you ever heard of Foot Golf? It is a game that all ages can play, instead of using a golf ball and stick you kick a soccer ball around. This is a 9 hole course at the Boorhaman Golf Course, only 25 minutes from Rutherglen.
