For the Family
There is so much on offer for families in Rutherglen, Wahgunyah and surrounds...
A place to play: Apex Park in Rutherglen has a well equipped playground and skate park with a small bike circuit for the 'little ones' and adjacent BBQ facilities. Bangerang Park in Corowa has a playground and miniature steam engine operating on holidays.
Fancy a swim? Cool off in the local Rutherglen swimming pool, enjoy a picnic on the shady lawns and brave the diving board! Or try the swimming pool at Corowa, with three different size pool to suit everyone. Stantons Bend and the lagoon at Corowa are also popular spots for families with young children.
Gone fishing! Families are able to hire equipment to go fishing, canoeing - or you can even try catching a few yabbies in the local dams and rivers! Lake King has plenty of Yellow Belly and Redfin to be caught. And during the season cast your line for the elusive Murray Cod!
Hire a rod and tackle from Bindaree Motel and Caravan Park for only $10 a day - and pick up tips on where the fish are biting!
Take a walk around Lake Moodemere or Lake King. There are also beautiful tracks to go bush walking through the Common Down near the Corowa Golf Club.
Try your hand at golf at the Rutherglen Golf Club or maybe have a hit of Tennis at the Rutherglen Tennis Courts - hire available from the Rutherglen Caravan Park.
Step back in time with a visit to the Common School Museum (Mondays, Friday, Saturday 11-3pm and Sundays 1pm-4pm). Children can look at old school desks, chalkboards and everyday items used in the past. Visit the historic port of Wahgunyah - see the collection of historic photographs and walk down to the Mass Tree. And Corowa's Federation Museum (open weekends) is well worth a visit.
Get back to nature - explore local wetlands located at Lake Moodemere and in Corowa at Bridge Rd, on the walking/bike track on Federation Avenue, and in Nixon St.
Lake King is home to a variety of native birds and animals, as well as many long-necked tortoises and ducks. They can be enticed quite close to the edge where they can be easily seen. Also walk around and spot all the different sculptures which are nestled amongst the trees.
Lake Moodemere is a natural lake formed by a Murray River billabong. A native bird & wildlife sanctuary, there is also an Aboriginal site which contains some magnificent examples of River Red Gum (some up to 4 meters in diameter), and Aboriginal canoe trees.
