Read brief descriptions on the beautiful camping spots that Rutherglen has to offer below.

The Police Paddocks is actually a naturally formed island that was used to spell police horses in the late 1800's. The island was accessed via a private bridge, the remnants of which can still be viewed. A large camp site, easily accessed year round by two and four wheel drive vehicles.

Shaw's Flat is a relatively small reserve, but worth seeking out for its great setting complete with towering River Red Gums, teeming with bird life and some great fishing spots. Being just seven kilometres from Rutherglen it can get busy during the warmer months.

Granthams Bend is a large reserve set on a sweeping bend on the Murray River near Wahgunyah. Open scrubland offers good walking and bush biking, and there are some nice sandy beaches to be found, particularly on the apex of the bend. Just mintues from Wahgunyah (and even closer to the nearest All Saints Estate & St Leonards Cellar Doors!), generally good access though a four wheel drive is recommended for anything but the main access roads. Grantham's Bend is linked by the Bridge to Bridge cycling trail - an easy riverside trail that takes you directly into the township of Wahgunyah.

Stanton's Bend is a large popular reserve just a few kilometres to the west of Rutherglen. An attractive setting on a wide expanse of river 'Stanton's' is popular with visitors and locals alike. A long stretch of sandy river beach offers safe swimming (usual Murray River warnings apply), and the low cliffs rising just downstream of the reserve makes for a stunning visual backdrop.

Lumby's Bend is a few kilometres further west, approximately ten minutes driving time to Rutherglen. A twisting section of the Murray, and more heavily wooded than some other reserves. Numerous good, level camping sites, though high banks restrict access to the river in sections.

Taylor's Bend is a little further west again. A smaller reserve with a natural boat ramp, and a reasonably good sandy beach at the apex of the bend. Not suitable for large caravans, but worth the effort if you are looking for a relatively peaceful spot that is still convenient to town.
